We have added a 5K for the first time in 21 years; for those of you who are interested in doing our Mud Run but just don’t want to do a 10K. The 5K course has a few different twists and turns but will still get you just as muddy as the 10K course!

What are the obstacles?

Fire hose: You’ll get hosed by the Camp Pendleton Fire Department on your way down Lake O’Neill Rd
Lunge: Everyone’s favorite leg exercise! Completed during a 20 yard section of the course
Steeple Chase: Hurdle a log and jump into a mud pit!
Sandbag overhead press: Marine Corps Order! You must press the sandbag 10 times overhead
Combat Town: Navigate through an authentic Marine Corp training combat town
Cargo Climb(s): Muscle your way up and down our 15 foot tall cargo net climb
Force Protection Barrier Challenge: Traverse through a series of barriers to continue on the course
Guadalcanal Bridge: Cross over the same bridge used overseas to traverse over crevices and canyons
Two Mud Walls/Pits: Time to get muddy!!!
Low crawl: Drop it down! Low crawl your way through 40 foot plus sections of low crawl
Tunnels: Crawl, Claw, Kick your way through!
The Infamous Slippery Hill: This steep, slippery, 100 foot hill is a sucker punch that our course happily delivers year after year!
Over/Under: Over the highs, under the lows. Hit these hard for a perfect CFT score!
100 foot final mud pit: The mother of all mud pits! Camo netting forces you to get your face in it!

How many obstacles are there?

There are 15 obstacle stations for the 10K, and 9 obstacle stations for the 5K.

Explain the Wave Start times please.  

Only the first two waves will be timed and eligible for awards as those are categorized as the “competitive waves.”

15 minutes prior to your designated wave start; please proceed to the staging area for instructions. Your wave time is listed on your bib number and denoted by the color of your bib. Only competitive waves will be timed, a running clock will be positioned at the start and finish so that you can note your own time. PLEASE BE SURE TO START IN YOUR CORRECT WAVE – DO NOT START IN A DIFFERENT WAVE!

Is there an age limit?

The minimum age to participate in the World Famous Mud Run is 13. Ages 6-12 can participate in the 1K World Famous Kid’s Mud Run.

Are you having a bib mail back option again this year?

Yes, we are. For an additional $10 you can have your bib mailed to you to save time on race morning. If you are participating on a team you can pay an additional $25 to have all five race bibs mailed to the team captain. No t-shirts will be mailed; you must pick those up morning of the race, after race waiver is signed.

Is there a parking fee?

Yes there is, parking is $5 per car (carpooling is highly encouraged). Please bring cash as this will expedite your wait and get you to the venue in time. FREE to DoD & Military with valid CAC card.

Is there a spectator fee?

No there is not, they will have to pay the $5 for parking but to enter the venue as a spectator there is no charge.

Do you offer refunds?

We offer no refunds, but we do allow transfers for $10. You have until MAY 1st to make any changes, after that you must do so day of for a $10 charge/per change.

How much does it cost to camp?

RV, Trailers and Tents:
Full hook up includes water/electric/sewer : $60/night
Partial hook up includes water/electric only: $50/night
Dry site includes No hook ups w/partial tree shade/fire pit: $40/night
Basic Dry site includes no hook ups : $30/night

Where does the money raised from the World Famous Mud Run go to?

All revenues from MCCS activities support quality of life programs for the Marines, Sailors and their families.


TEAMS

How many people can be on a team?

Teams must consist of 5 people.

As a team captain, how do I register my team?

You must register all 5 people and pay for full team. You can register your team under 3 different categories: Female, Male, or Co-Ed.

Female Team: All 5 team members are female.
Male Team: All 5 team members are male OR 1 female and 4 males.
Co-Ed Team: Minimum of 2 females.

What information do I need to register my team members?

You will need the following information for each of your teammates: Participant’s Full Name, Gender, Age, Birthdate, Shirt Size, Email Address, Mailing Address and Phone Number.

How do I edit a team member?

To edit one of your team members (at no cost) you can simply log in to your account at active.com and click the edit button and change out any of your teammates. You have until MAY 1st to make any changes, after that you must do so day of for a $10 charge/per change.


TRANSFERRING

How do I transfer my individual registration if I cannot participate anymore?

There will be a $10 transfer fee and you can transfer online at Active.com, However if you transfer after May 1 you must pay the price increase as well as $10 transfer fee.

Can I transfer my entry to another event in the 2014 Hard Corps Race Series®?

Unfortunately no, we cannot transfer your registration entry to any other race in our series.


WORLD FAMOUS KIDS MUD RUN

What does the 1K Kids Mud Run entail?

Specifically designed for children 6-12 years of age. PLEASE NO PARENTS. We will have marines at designated areas along the course to help out. With their race entry kids will receive a finisher medal, four (4) obstacles, post-race refreshments and access to the Filthy Fun Fest Kid Zone (Additional Fees).

SPECTATORS

Are spectators allowed?

Yes, we welcome spectators at our race! They can set up in the Filthy Fun Fest and enjoy the bands and food, or sit on the bleachers at the final mud pit. However, there is not much shade so please come prepared.

Is there a fee?

There is no fee to spectate.

Can spectators enter the Gold VIP area?

They can, however they must purchase a pass the day of if space is available.

Is there an area for spectators to watch along the course?

There is not a spot along the course, but we do have bleachers at the final mud pit that you can sit and watch for loved ones. We offer live streaming in the Filthy Fun Fest venue with cameras strategically placed throughout the course. You can also watch the start of the race or your loved ones online live each day.


WHAT TO EXPECT ON EVENT DAY

What time should I arrive on race day?

We recommend arriving to the front gate no later than two hours prior to your race start. This allows you to get through the security at the gate, as well as park and shuttle over to the venue. You will also need to turn in your signed race waiver when picking up your shirt.

What should I bring?

We recommend bringing:
Driver’s License, Vehicle Registration, and Proof of Insurance (for Base Gate Access)
Plastic bags for your muddy clothes post-race
Change of clothes
Towel
Extra set of shoes if you decide to donate your shoes after the race.
Low rise chair
Small umbrella
If you forget something, just check out the onsite Mud Run Store. There is plenty of gear available for purchase.

Where can I find directions to Lake O’Neill?

I-5 North to Camp Pendleton exit or I-5 South to Harbor Drive exit. Enter the Camp Pendleton main gate. Continue on Vandegrift, following the RACE EVENT signs (8.5 miles) to the Lake O’Neill Recreation area. Bring a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and vehicle registration for yourself and a valid ID for all passengers.

Where is parking?

General Parking is located across from the air station and up Rattlesnake Canyon Road. VIP parking is located by the venue down Lake O’Neill Road (please have your parking pass displayed). Camp Pendleton Police and Volunteers will be directing participants to the parking areas. There will be signs posted please look for them.

Is there a bag check?

We have a free secure bag check area that you can leave your valuables with us while you get down and dirty!

What is not allowed in the venue?

Service and working dogs only (no personal pets)
Coolers
Outside food and drink
Canopies and pop-up tents

What is the Filthy Fun Fest?

The Filthy Fun Fest is the world’s dirtiest after party! We have live bands, multiple food vendors, beer and other beverages, apparel and merchandise available! There is also a Fun Zone with activities for the young and old to include hymn hamster balls, paintball and face painting.  Come for the run, stay for the fun!

Can I skip an obstacle?

Yes, you can skip an obstacle, unless you are in one of the two competitive waves. If you are in one of the two then you must do all obstacles or you must disqualify yourself by reporting that you did not complete the course to the timing company at the finish line.

Will you have an area for me to change after the race?

Yes! We have designated changing tents that you can change in.

Are there showers available?

After you race you can rinse off in our “hogwash” however, no soap or shampoo please due to environmental reasons.

Is there a time limit on the event?

The course will close at 2pm.

Is there going to be food provided?

Yes we will have finish line food for participants that will include: water, Gatorade, oranges, and bananas. Other food can and snacks are available at the Filthy Fun Fest.

Can I bring my dog?

Sorry, service and working dogs only.  Please leave your personal pets at home.

Can I bring a canopy?

No, we recommend bringing a low chair and a small umbrella to keep you shaded.Are there aid stations?
Yes, there are numerous refueling stations. We have water, Gatorade, fruit, and light first aid should you require it.


AWARDS

How will awards work?

Female and Male age divisions are separated every 10 years as follows: 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+
Active Duty Military – Female & Male Divisions: 18-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55+
Only the first two COMPETITIVE WAVES are eligible for awards.
Boots and Utes for 1st-3rd place male and female finishers only (no age division).
Note:  You must be racing in competitive waves to be eligible for boots and utes awards.


AFTER RACE DAY

Where can I find results?

You will find the results and photos on our website (www.worldfamousmudrun.com) results will be posted by 5pm race day.

Where can I find photos from my race?

Photos will be posted about a week after your race at opix.net

Lost and Found Information

Lost and found is located at the information booth in the Filthy Fun Fest area. Your items will be transferred to the Race Series Office and held for a month after the final Mud Run. Please contact the Race Series at (760) 725-6836/6289 to locate them.

How long after the race can I get my awards?

If you missed the awards ceremony day of the race you can have your medal mailed to you for a $10 fee (that covers shipping and handling – as well as supplies that we must purchase to ship you your medal) or you can stop by our office located on Camp Pendleton and pick them up for free. Once we receive the check we will then mail your medal to you. Deadline to have your medal mailed to you is Jul 8, 2014.  To have your medal shipped to you – you must first mail us a check for $10 made out to “MCCS FUND 0140” at:

CAMPING

How much does it cost to camp?

RV, Trailers and Tents:

Where can I sign up for camping?

You can sign up when you register as an “add on” or sign up after the fact at worldfamousmudrun.com and click on the registration link. Please do not wait too long as the camp sites go fast and you may not get what you want if you wait.

In Relation to the venue, where is the camping located?

The Campsites are across from lake O’Neill near the venue. It is a 5 min free tram ride or a 15 min walk.

What nights are available to camp?

May 30-31 and Jun 1-8.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is at 5pm and check-out is at 4pm.

Are there any amenities such as cable hook-up, laundry, etc?

Available amenities are subject to change during Mud Run weekend:  Dump Station, Public Restroom, Portable Restrooms, Fire Rings, Picnic Tables, Playgrounds, Picnic Areas/Pavilions, Ball Fields, Mini Golf, Boating, Volleyball and Basketball Courts.

Where is my site located?

You will be receiving an email one week prior to checking-in, letting you know what site you have been assigned.

Does the sites offer 50amp or 30amp?

Yes, sites with power have both.

How far is Lake O’Neill from the front gate off of I-5?

12 miles

How many vehicles and tent can they have?

You can have two vehicles and two tents depending upon size.

Can we swim in the lake?

It is a drinking reservoir NO body water contact please.

Can we burn pallets?

No, Base rules. Standard firewood only please.


VOLUNTEER

Can anyone volunteer for the World Famous Mud Run?

Yes! We accept civilian and military volunteers for this race. Civilians must be 16 and above with a signed parent waiver to participate.

What do I receive for volunteering?

Civilian volunteers will receive lunch, and a shirt.
